I'm considering purchasing a 2 quart kit of some brand 2 part flotation foam and was wondering how much of area can these kits approximately cover? Has anyone used these before?

Depending on what weight of foam. A 2lb foam in a 4lb kit (about 1.7 quarts) will give you 2 cubic feet.
A 4lb foam in a 4lb kit will give you about 1 cubic foot.
Look at US Composites web site. They have some guides on this.

buy a cheap food mixer (hand held type) and watch the temp (high is good) if you plan to get max fill out of the foam

^^ I agree totally with the above. Temp. and a good mix ARE the two most important things to getting the most expansion.

Volume, not area . . .

Yes people here have used them before. I used the 8 cubic foot kit from US Composites this past year.

The kits advertise a certain amount of volume (usually in cubic feet) . . . I would plan on about 75% of what they advertise, unless you are in 90 degree weather, etc.

Preparation is key: You need to be ready to pour right after you mix the 2 parts . . . you have about 30 seconds to pour.

You will also need to figure out the density that you want (2lb.cu ft, or 4 lb/cu ft, etc.)

This depends on what your average depth for the area is going to be.

... and as stated above, temperature plays a big part in the expansion rate of 2 part foam.
