Flu shots... Did you get one?

Did you get a flu shot, or will you be getting one?<br />It's amazing how the media has stirred up such a panic.<br /><br />I think the current flu situation is blown way out of proportion and it isn't as bad as we are led to believe.<br />Yes, there has been some deaths, but doesn't that happen every year? So it was a little sooner this year.<br />I feel bad for the families that had losses to the flu.<br /><br />All of these shortages we hear about...No vaccine left etc...<br />I just took my son to the Dr. (un-related to the flu), and they have plenty of shots left, and in the Doctor's opinion, the vaccine isn't going to help you anyway since the strain is different.<br />My son is 4, and the Dr. didn't recommend the shot.<br />So why all the panic to get your shot?<br /><br />Kinda seems strange doesn't it? The flu comes around every year about this time, like clockwork... Now the mass hysteria to get your shot.<br /><br />Hmmmmm...<br /><br /> <br /><br />H.

I haven't had a decent cold in at least 7 years.<br /><br />A friend of mine has been down for almost about a week with the flu. I saw him for the first time in a while today and asked him if he got a flu shot, which he said he did last month. Other members of his family have suffered harsh disease's at fairly young ages.<br /><br />I think these afflicitons have a lot to do with each person's immune system. Both my parents and their parents enjoyed good health during times of communical disease's. I feel I have inherited a good immune system from them.<br /><br /> ...Bob in Calif...

We where talking about this at dinner tonight. My 9mounth old brother is getting one tomorow, the friggen news people hooked my mom, my dad didn't agree,. but let it go. He just got out of the dog house anyway <br /><br />I didn't get one, I got one two years ago. I've never had the Flu yet. I'll take my chances.

Every flu shot I ever had gave me the flu.<br /><br />The only advantage I can see is that you can be sick for a week on your own schedule.

Yep, it happens this time every year. Christmas shoppers leaving their germs on door handles, shopping carts, escalator rails, elevator buttons, payphones, atm's, etc. Then after the parents have taken the kids to the mall and subjected them to all the germs, they send the kids off to school. Then the cycle get started there with the germs being spread throughout.<br /><br />If people would do their best to take precautions to prevent spreading germs, there wouldn't be these large outbreaks.<br /><br />I don't take the flu shot, sometimes I get and sometimes I don't. I do my shopping on the net now and haven't been sick. Since son is home schooled, he hasn't been sick either. During these flu outbreaks, the safest place is at home. For at work, send the sickies home to keep the healty ones healthy.<br /><br />SS

I took a flu shot 2 yrs ago and never got the flu or really even a bad cold. About 2 mths ago, while at the Doc for a routine, I took another flu shot. I don't know just did it because it was easy I guess. I haven't gotten the Flu, so who knows?

The school kids really make it bad.<br />I grill my kids about touching infected things and washings their hands, but you know "little Johnny" isn't washing his hands like he should, and spreads germs everywhere.<br />Then you have the employee who won't give up the fight and stays at work and infects everyone else. I practically had to drag one of the guys off work and send him home the other day <br /><br />I had a flu shot several years ago. Never took it again. <br />I never really have got a full blown case of the flu, just bronchitis mostly.<br />Most people I talk to that take the shot gets sick anyway.<br /><br />I also think staying in a fairly cool room also helps. Most germs like a warm, moist environment.<br />I keep the house around 60-65 in the winter, and darn near freezing in the summer!<br />The family gripes, but hey.. Get a blanket!<br /><br />To be safe, I got some anti-bacterial soap and some spray to keep around.<br />It never occurred to me, but that pen you pick up and sign for your prescriptions or whatever at the drug counter has been picked up by how many "sicklies' before you got there?<br /><br />I carry my own pen now thanks... <br /><br />H.

Get one every year. Haven't gotten the flu from one, sometimes I break out in a sweat the night of the day I get it. Arm gets sore for a day or so, but I haven't had the flu ever. It's free at work, so why not.

Got my flu shot about a month and a half ago, and just got over the worst flu I ever had. It was absolutely miserable. Came down with it this weekend, could not move for 3 days (except to run to the bathroom to evacuate one end or the other every 15 minutes).

Last time I got a flu shot I was sick for 2 weeks! Of course that was 25 years ago, and they were using a live virus... not the same as today.<br /><br />Best advice I can give during the cold & flu season is:<br /><br />1. Wash your hands & wash them often and for a long enough duration. Singing (to yourselves, please) 2 rounds of "Row, Row, Row Your Boat" is long enough.<br />2. Don't touch your eyes, nose or mouth.<br />3. If you do catch the flu, be a good human being and STAY HOME! Influenza spreads quickly among large groups of people.<br />4. If you use the same workstation as someone else (like doing shift-work), take the time to clean the phone & computer keyboard with alcohol wipes, and see #1.<br /><br />Stay well, y'all!

Dont get the flu shot unless your a high risk. I avoid medicine as much as possible. It breaks down your natural immune system.

LF & I get flu shots every year from my work. Sometimes we get a touch of the flu within a week or so. I was never very bad, not much more than a cold for a day.<br /><br />This year after 3 weeks I got the worse case of the flu I have ever had. Kicked my butt for about 5 days. After I finally was coming out of it LF came down with it. She was sick as hell also. <br /><br />Don't know if it was from the shot or if we were exposed before the shot had a chance to build up our immune systems against it but it was a very nasty version this year.

I get a flu shot every year (except 2), never made me sick. I also swear it helps w/the common cold too. I do not seem to get as sick when I have the shot as opposed to the 2 years I missed.<br /><br />The doctors office where my wife works is out of the vaccine. So there may be a shortage. Also from what I've been told that if you get sick from the shot there was something else brewing and when the antibodies where pulled from the virus they where fighting to fight the flu vaccine that is why you got sick. Don't know how true that is though.

I didn't get the flu shot, but I am on my second day of having the flu, does that count? I have been sick more this year than in my entire life. I rarely missed school, the Army kept me pumped full of who knows what, and was barely ever sick the whole eleven years I was in. I have been out since January 98 and each year I have been sick more and more. That leads me to believe that the shots do some good after all, even if I never knew what I was getting. They would just say its shot time, and we would line up, and they would pump all sorts of different things in us. usually two to four shots at a time, a few times a year. Then there was the "special" shots if we were going overseas. It was a pain, but I miss those shots now....

i don't remember ever having the flu, have only had 2 flu shots in my life. the 2nd one was last week. my wife & 4yr old also got shots. <br /><br />they've both had to stay home due to being sick, 3 days this week makes me wonder about getting another shot <br /><br />jasonj, i know what you mean, it seems to go in cycles to me though. i had bad allergy & cold/sinus probs for the last 5yrs - until this yr. haven't had any real probs this yr, maybe a slight sniffle once or twice for a few days. haven't had to take any allergy/cold meds so far,this yr.

Jason - all those aliphatic fumes ran your immune system dowm, beware boat restoring!!!<br /><br />my doc report came back bad, kidneys are failing, and as one that lives with a dialysis patient, I am terrified, I was so worried about finals and projects and deadlines, and I dont give a chit about any of it now<br /><br />I always read about people being told they have cancer, and they stop hearing ... and he said, kidneys are failing, and he got fuzzy, something about going to see a nephrologist, blah blah blah<br /><br />numbness<br /><br />but he did say that since my diabetic numbers are going bad too, I better get the flu shot, running out of it, so I got it, arm doesnt really hurt, but for some reason, and I dont know if its related, but my legs are swollen REALLY badly, and I have to take a 75 question test tonight, plus the 50 mile round trip in this flooded out mess thats out there<br /><br />that sneaking, creeping depression is suddenly worse, I "cheer up" when I go for a ride in Red, but its short lived<br /><br />ah well<br /><br />getting old sucks<br /><br />still going to have a merry christmas!
