Flush engine without muffs?

Greetings, It was easy flushing the Alpha 1 outdrive and Merc 181 ci engine with the muffs when the boat is on the trailer. But, I moved on a canal and the boat is now on a boat lift. The problem is the boat hangs over the canal and I can not reach the outdrive to put the muffs on.
Question: is there a way I can rig a water hose directly into an engine hose so I can flush the engine and outdrive? I know they is such a water hose connection for car heater hoses to flush radiators. Will this work and which hose should I use?
Thanks, Marty

not an expert, but it would seem to me that if you run a hose to the engine it would work, but then you are running your impeller dry and that will fry it

That won't work on an Alpha drive. You have to have water flow across the water pump impeller in the drive or you will fry the impeller while running the engine. Using muffs or having the drive submerged in water is the only way to run it.

Although I Don't Know for Sure,... As I've never had a Reason to Try,......
But,....
If you were to plumb in a fitting like you suggest into the In-coming waterline,... The 1 that comes from the transom plate, over the manifold, to the T-stat housing........
Then,......
Just Turn the Water ON,...... Don't start the Motor,.....
It Should Pressure Flush the Whole Motor,.........
Nope,....... I forgot,... The T-stat will be Closed,+ All you'll flush will be the Manifold.........

Never Mind......:/

When you say "moved on a canal" does that include any hot water source? If so, what Bondo suggests could work if you could use hot water to flush . . . You might need a really long hose, but anything over 150ish should open the thermostat. Just a thought as sometimes I use hot water to wash stuff outside and just run a hose directly off the water heater, works better for dishes, right?

Why can't you put the drive in the "trailer" position, put the muffs on from the swim platform, & then lower it back down after you put the muffs on?....
I realize that it would be difficult for an older person though.........JK

Buy a cheap rowboat or dingy and row out to it...good exercise. Thats what the rest of us do. Plus ya get to go for a boat ride, slow, but is still a boat ride 8)

remove petcock on block and connect heater hose on a barbed fitting in place of it.Install a chrome capped h2o inlet in rear of cockpit and connect the heater hose to the back of it .When you want to flush ,just connect a garden hose and turn it on at very low pressure for as long as you want.Been there -done that ...and it worked great!!!Charlie

70 mustang, Lower the boat until the OD is in the water. Now remove the raw water hose and add a length of hose to it, and hang it over the side. Now stick a garden hose into the place where you removed the raw water hose and start the motor. You will flush the block and manifolds with fesh water, while allowing the canal water to go over the side. When you are done flushing, stop the motor, raise the boat on the lift and put the garden hose into the raw water hose to fush the impeller.
