I have a 2003 Yama 130 txrb. When I do a fresh water flush with the adapter on top of engine would it be okay to have engine in water tilted up or down? I don't know if I'm doing it right. I usually do the flush with the engine down but the engine is in the water. Is this ok? Also i know some people say to use the ear muffs but my boat stays at the marina. Is there anyway to put earmuffs on when boat is in water or would it have to cone out of the water. Thanks ps i know this sounds stupid but i would like to know so i can take care of engine. Thanks again

Re: Flushing a yamaha

I can't exactly answer your question, but one thing to be aware of is that outboard motors are self draining when in their down position. A friend of mine stored his outboard motor in the up position for the winter after flushing it and the water that remained in the block froze and cracked the block. Not sure if you should flush the motor and then store it upright at all. Curious to see what others say about this. Wish I had more info for you, but I trailer my boat, so I flush it after each outing in the down position and store it in that position as well.

I'm not storing it. I'm currently using it but I keep it at a dock in the water.

If you flush the engine using the top adapter without the engine running you will rinse out the powerhead regardless of whether or not the lower unit is in the water. if the lower unit is lifted then that will rinse also.
If you run the engine with the lower unit in the water you will suck in water through the lower unit even if you have water hooked up to the adapter.

I have a '98 Yam 115 and according to the manual, the best way to use the upper flush connector is immediately after use while the engine is still warm. The engine should be off, tilted up and flushed for 15 minutes.

Hope this helps.
