Just wanted to hear a few opinions on the best way to flush out a 97 merc bigfoot, (I run it in salt water) I don't have the manufacturers manual nor the particular method to be used. At the moment I use rectangular 'ear muffs', I'm not getting water going into the intake even if I'm holding them on. Will a round set do a better job? Does submerging the shaft in a drum of fresh water work better? I heard this can just reciculate the salt.
Thanks for everyones input, and happy boating

The mad Aussie!

Re: Flushing advice

Hey billy...

I use muffs [round] on my 115 Merc with no problems. However with my 25 Merc. Bigfoot I use a cut down 55gal heavy plastic drum.

If you decide to use the drum don't worry about recirculating salt water. The amount left in the engine is diluted sufficiently by the fresh water in the drum.
