I have a 2016 Crownline 255 SS with a 300 HP Volvo Penta engine with 20 hours. While flushing the engine the temperature came up to 144 degrees and stayed there for a while and then dropped to 0 degrees. The engine was not running hot, has anyone see or heard of this issue before?

I was flushing it through the hose connection on the side of the engine. I have flushed it once before and the temp stayed at 140 thought the whole process.

Either an issue with the sending unit or connection there, or the flushing unit is allowing air in, causing the sending unit to not read properly.

I can't envision this being anything but a problem with the gauge or sending unit. Zero degrees F wouldn't occur even with no water on the sensor unless you are in the arctic.

I`d say a sending unit or gage issue. I`d start it up again and see what happens, monitoring the block temps with an IR temp gun. If temp gun indicated the block and manifold temps are steady, then it`s the sender or gage.
