Will flushing the cooling system using a garden hose hooked up to the flush hose be enough to remove chunks from a failed impellor? Should any hoses be removed when doing so other than the hoses that hook to the impeller housing? Thanks for any advice!

Re: Flushing impeller chunks from 2003 VP GXi / DP-SM drive

Well, after my impeller disintegrated I flushed my system with a garden hose and thought everything was fine... A couple trips later the engine started overheating, I removed the thermostat housing and the small water hose inlets were completely clogged as well as impeller parts in the thermostat spring itself. I cleaned that out and worked perfectly for approx. 3 more weekend trips out, when I started hearing a whining or whistling sound coming from the fuel pump and was getting symptoms of vapor lock... Today, I removed the water inlet and outlet hoses from the pump and tried to shoot about 65lbs of air pressure through it with no luck, I increased the air pressure to 100psi and little bits of impeller shot out! So, in my experience (very recent experience) I would suggest maybe removing the thermostat housing and checking that, the water cooling hoses that go to the fuel pump and maybe even run water through the system with these items off...

Good luck!
