Rebuilding 1997 Yamaha 150HP 2 stroke Salt Water Series II S150TXRV powerhead.
( Click here to view updated blog with new pictures )

After disassembling my powerhead, I now realize that flushing by use of the Yamaha hose attachment attached to the midsection, and by not running the engine while flushing, is inadequate. (Thermostats don't open and so cylinder head water jackets never get flushed.)

I have a situation where I am unable to reach the lower unit's water intake with muffs (boat is on a lift and I have no platform to get down/back there), so I am unable to flush the conventional way.

HOW ABOUT THIS:
What about flushing through the hose attachment, but RUNNING the engine so that it gets hot enough for the thermostats to open? With this there is a concern that the impeller would burn up, but wouldn't the excess water from the flush attachment that I see coming out the lower-unit- water-intake keep the impeller from becoming destroyed?

Not that I would do this because I think it is a little over the top, but theoretically how about hooking up water from your water heater to the input of your flush hose attachment on the engine.

I just measured my water heater's output at 123F. Not enough to open the thermostats significanly, but our water heater can be turned up.

Food for thought.

why not just hook up the muffs to th water intake and run the thing for 5-10 minutes? maybe its way to simple.
somewher outback I have a flusher on a stick I made just for that.
I see a lot of engine running flusing with the flush device just below the powerhead, now yamaha is rather ambiguos about it.
