I have a 1982 90HP mercury, Motor #211871,S.R.#Z06187290, distibutorless system that I suspect does not have a flywheel key, I was told if the flywheel key was not sheared ,the only other thing that could cause the flywheel to be out 90 degrees timing is the swithboxes to be plugged in 90 out. It was running before the timing decal on the flywheel went from around 6:00clock( correct) to around 1;00clock( Wrong )any suggestions to remedy my problem would be very much appreciated. Thanks

wet line,
This is your third different posting on the same subject. Doing this doesn't expedite anything but it does confuse the folks trying to help you.

Hooty

Re: Flywheel key or not? (Merc)

Sorry Hooty,I've been told a number of things that hasn't panned out, just trying to get my motor going so I can use my boat.By the way my flywheel is bolted on with several bolts, I suspect it does not have a flywheel key sheared because it has no keyway to shear , I'm gonna check it out closer today.I'll stay in touch and let you know what I find, meantime I'll use some patience and hopefully someone wil know what is causing the problem and how to remedy it. Again sorry for any confusion on your part.

On my 60 hp evinrude When I take out the center bolt I see my key stock (flywheel key ). This is easy to check on my engine. Your's might be different.

Wetline, there is a key. You have to pull that small center piece that you flywheel is bolted to.

wetline for the second time THERE IS NO FLYWHEEL KEY..you dont remove a mercury flywheel by taking the bolts out of the hub you take the 15/16 th nut of the crank and thread a special puller in to remove itr which is why your out of time because you didnt put the flywheel back together which you shouldnt have taken apart in the first place...AAAAAAHHHHHHHH
