1987 Evinrude 225. Runs GREAT.
I posted here two years ago to ask for advice on how to glue in a new set of flywheel magnets during a complete rebuild of the ignition system. The existing flywheel magnets were all unstuck and bunched up when I got this motor and I needed to know the orientation for a new set.
I got EXCELLENT good advice on this and many things since. Just noticed today after a weekend of running that one of the flywheel magnets has come unstuck. Whats going on? I scoured the inside of the flywheel last time around, when I replaced all of the magnets using the glue in the kit provided, and thought that this was solved for a lifetime. Since I'm about to pull the flywheel and do it again, what do I do to avoid this again? A couple questions:
1) Should I remove/replace all of the magnets?
2) Could this be due to the WD40 spraydown that I give my motor before (and sometimes after) each ocean run?
DHADLEY, since you are my hero and always have answers about this motor, have you been here before? Where did I go wrong?
One last thing; with the help of this forum and lots of parts/labor/busted knuckles (all my own) I have gone from 3200 max RPM to 5200 over the 2 year lifetime of this boat in my hands, with top speed of 40 mph on my 22 foot ChrisCraft Seahawk 216. Any suggestions for squeezing out another 300-400 RPM? Fuel and ignition are all new or rebuilt. What steps can I take to tune?
