Okay. So I need some help. My motor is a 1992 Pro V 200.
Today on the lake my motor was running great for the first 5 hours or so. Then as I crank it up and move from spot to spot, I hear a noise. To describe the noise, I would have to say it sounded like an empty metallic potato chip bag being squeezed and ruffled. I also hear a couple of metallic cracks. As my frown began to grow, I keep running it for another couple hundred yards to check my speed and water pressure. Pressure is great, speed is where it normally is. I shut her down, try to crank it back up - NOT happening. So I pull up to someone's dock and pull the cowling off. The starter is hung in the flywheel (but not because it is messed up). I knock the starter with a pair or pliers and wiggle the flywheel to get it to drop. Notice that I said I wiggled the flywheel. I could not turn the flywheel more than 2 centimeters. Why? Because something was holding it. This something is in the below pictures. It looks like a seal that goes up under the flywheel. Someone on the lake told me it was the seal that kept compression up on the crankshaft. There was also tiny metallic pieces laying in the motor (all over the place). These pieces were magnetic as well. So, I know that yall are the best at this stuff. Here are my questions.
1. What do you think the problem is is?
2. What caused it?
3. What other problems may it have caused.
4. What is a good estimate of cost (if it is the seal)?
5. If it is the seal, is it something I can fix myself?
Thanks guys.
