I'm thinking about replacing a 3.0L Mercruiser engine. The engine I'm thinking of replacing it with has a 14" flywheel and the old one has a 12 3/4 " flywheel. Can I use the old flywheel on the new engine instead of buying a new flywheel?

Thanks.

It will depend on the vintage of the two engines and your transom assembly. I just replaced a1981 3.0L with a new one and I had to order a special replacement flywheel and coupler for it because of the difference between a one piece and two piece rear main seal. You also have to be very careful when installing the new style flywheel and coupler on the old style transom assembly because the clearance for the coupler bolts very tight, I had to grind the bolts heads down slightly so they would not hit the flywheel cover.

Ayuh,.... Welcome Aboard,.... You also have to look, 'n see whether the block is drilled for Both starter bolt patterns,.....

The 12" flywheel needs the straight across bolt pattern, 'n the 14" flywheel uses the staggered bolt pattern starter,....
