Re: Foam in a can?

There are several different types of foam. In the last few years the manufacturers of the household type have reduced the expansion rates of their foam, we used to be able to get a alot more "mileage" out of a can.

Most of the foams break down and dry out significantly when exposed to sunlight (UV exposure is the issue). For floatation without exposure to sunlight you'll need a closed cell foam. If your expectation is to expose it to sunlight...you will need a specialty foam.

To answer your question...How good are these products? They are excellent if matched appropriately to the intended use. Do not expect the Home Depot can of foam intended for wall cavities, in dry conditions, not exposed to sunlight to perform well when exposed to sunlight and exterior marine conditions.
