I have read that you are not suppose to fog MPI engines due to gumming up the injectors and sensors. I have also read on here about people fogging efi 2 strokes just as if they were carb engines. I was wondering what the general knowledgeable consensus was regarding a 1991 175 Merc efi. Fog through the air intake or spray the oil into each cylinder via the spark plug holes and turn the flywheel by hand.

Thanks for the input!

The outboard EFI is a wet reed injection system and you can fog it thru the intake. Its not that reliable as the air intake is in center of the air plenum and the upper cylinders rarely get any mixture when done this way. I myself 'pickle" them with a 3 gallon fuel tank mixed 50:1and Quickleen. I hook up my hose to fuel system, start engine and raise idle to 1500rpms,disconnect oil linkage to oil pump(puts it in 50:1 mode) and let run for 15 minutes. Engine is then shut down, linkage reinstalled, spark plugs removed and shot of fogging oil applied, rotated by hand 1 revolution, VST tank drained and new water/fuel separator filter installed
