I'm trying to save money this year by winterizing my boat myself. I live in Massachusetts so the boat will be stored (covered) outside for 5-6 months.
I've already put anti-freeze in the live well pump and water lines, pulled the boat's plug, removed the trolling motor batteries and brought them inside, added fuel stabilizer to the gas tank and filled it up with gas. I also have a cover all set.
My biggest question is what do I need to do to the engine. From what I read I should run the stabilized fuel through the engine for 5 or 10 minutes and then fog the engine and grease all the fittings and store the engine in the vertical (down) position.
I'm just not sure how to fog the engine. My engine model is E115FPXSOD (115 HP Outboard).
The marina that I usually take it to for winterizing told me they just hook it up to special treated gas instead of fogging the engine. I can't really do that so I'm at a loss on what to do.
My motor has 4 carbs and there is a large plastic shield that covers all four carbs. Do I need to remove that cover to fog the engine? Any advice on how to fog the engine would be greatly appreciated!
I've also had an issue the past couple years where the steering cable seizes up after sitting all winter. I can't seem to find a way to easily lubricate the steering cable. I've resorted to disconnecting the cable from the motor and putting a plastic "diaper" around the exposed fitting and filling it up with PB blaster. Seems to work, but it is a pain every spring to do this and I'm wondering if there is an easy way to lubricate the cable. My boat is a Seaswirl 1851DC.
Thank you in advance.
