Fogging oil question:

Good day, For the first time in my OB life (lol) I have used fogging oil with my OB for winter storage. Used the method of spraying oil in the carburator while engine running. Motor stalled after 4 or 5 seconds of spraying and I left it at that.

Obviously there is gas/oil mixture left in the carburator since I did not run it dry + fogging oil.
My question is: will the OB be harder to start in the spring due to fogging oil in the carburator for up to 5 months ?

Thank you all.

Re: Fogging oil question:

The short answer on hard starting in the spring is, not really.

Drain the carbs if you have concerns about gas being left in them.

Running it until its dry doesn't empty the float bowl, it only lowers the fuel level, so draining it is still needed if you want the carbs empty.

Re: Fogging oil question:

I run them with sea-foam added to gasoline so I dont normaly empty the carburator and in the spring time after a long storage period they start as if they had been used the day before. My concern is will sea-foam turn out as gum in the carbs sitting in there for 5 months ?

Re: Fogging oil question:

I feel that draining carbs a couple of times per year is a very good idea since any water, debris or fuel deposits tend to collect in those float bowl chambers. The carbs on my 90HP are easy to reach but I understand certain models the carbs are hard to reach and drain. If you're using the Stabil or Seafoam in your fuel, you're probably going to be O.K. anyway. Good Luck!

Re: Fogging oil question:

Fogging oil sprayed into the carb throats does not get into the inside of a carb. It passes into the engine along with the fuel/air mixture. There is no way it can get inside the carb unless it was mixed with the fuel in the tank or oil resevoir if the engine was oil injected. If you use a fuel treatment (Stabil or SeaFoam), leave the carbs full. No air -- no varnish build up.

I see ... I get it ... thank you all for your feedback. All 3 OB's have been winterised with fogging oil.

PS: I'll know who to ask if they dont start in the spring .... (just kidding) LOL
