fogging your carbs

i just winterize my 115 merc outboard on my own for the frist time was i wrong to fog the carbs, also when i drained the lower unit i had a little bit of metal on the drain screw is this something to worry about?

captjoes <br /><br />You did right to fog it. As for the metal on the plug, if it looked like a little "fuzz" and not particles of metal, you are OK. That's just normal wear. It's when you actually see metal slivers and such, then there is cause for concern.

What does fogging do that adding stabil doesn't do? I've only had boats for a few years but never have fogged carbs.

dhud64 <br /><br />Fogging coats the inside motor parts with a protective coating for long term storage(Kind of like oiling everything inside). Stabil just treats the fuel, so it will not sour over time.
