Ray: In response to my question: 'The trim tilt unit on my 1986 Yamaha 115 V4 outboard (ETLJ) needs to be replaced. I can get a used tim tilt unit from a 1992 115 for a reasonable price. Does anyone know if this will fit my motor? The parts catalog on the Yamaha website shows that 1986 and 1992 tilt trim units have different part numbers & look a little different but I'm hoping the mounting is the same.',<br />you replied: 'Not sure exactly which year the moors went from a three wire motor to a two, but it was 86 or 87. if it has the same nunber of wires it should work.'<br /><br />Does this mean the mounting is the same? i.e. the 92 trim tilt will physically match up on my 86?<br /><br />Thanks, John.

Re: Followup Question to Ray N re 86 Tilt Trim

If they both use the two wire motor the mounting is the same. If not it can be made to work with some fabrication and changing the relay system. The newer model associated with the two wire motor had a much greater trim range. on that model if you have the relays contained in a small black box, it is a two wire motor.
