Ok, I'm currently rebuilding a 1975 Mark Twain V200 from the bottom up. I pulled the engine when I started and its been sittin in the garage waiting patiently for attention. Yesterday I un bolted the carb and did some research on the internet but I couldnt find any rebuild kits that worked with my exact Mercury part number. I went to Autozone but they were no help. I tried NAPA and after a few phone calls the guy told me he found the kit I needed but it was a special order part. It was gonna cost $100 bucks for the kit and $17 for the float!!! Is that a lot of green for a rebuild kit or am I that cheap? The engine is a Mercruser 888 (ford 302). The carb is a Holley 2brl, Mercury Marine p/n 1358-4532A1. My service manual calls it a Holley model 2300-C. I did come across a rebuild kit here on Iboats with the same p/n I got from Napa (18-7081) for $80. I'm not familiar enough yet with differences from auto and marine engines but i'm tryin to catch up with you guys. This just seems really high for a rebuild kit. The kit for a automtive Holley 2300 is only 20 bucks at Jegs. What makes the marine version so special?

Wait for the Merc crowd to get home; they will be here soon.
they have to look up parts #'s first.

i just checked.... prices are about right.
dunno what the deal with the jegs price is... you'd have to ask them.
Since all carb's are not always rebuildable... you may want to look into a new one... considering the repair parts are up there.
I'd personally swap it for a rochester....

Re: $$$ for carb rebuild kit seems high

I did some more checkin and I found the marine version of the 2300 on the holley website and was able to find a p/n for the renew kit. Jegs has it listed for $30. I'll order it from them. For some reason I cant find anything listed anywhere for the mercury p/n(1358-4532A1), It is skipped everywhere I look. So i'm not sure the Sierra kit from iboats or NAPA would work.

Thanks guys

I can't find a serial number. I've looked in all the typical areas the serial number should be and where the service manual points out but no luck. I did find a "4 STAR REMANUFACTURE" decal below the port side valve cover so it is obviously not the original engine.

Thanks capt
