Ok don't know how many of the guys in here mop, but in my house the duty falls for me. We have hardwood floors through most of the house so its not just a quick job. Well I've been finding that after every time I mop, my lower back would begin to hurt. So after a little bit of thought, I determined it was the length of the mop handle that was causing me to bend in an un-natural position. The mop handle is about 4ft long and most likely is designed for the average heigth of a woman. (not being sexist, just looking at marketing demographics). So this go around I made a change. I slid a piece of scrap pvc piping over the mop handle and extended its length to about 7ft. I'm 6ft tall and let me tell you, it made a world of difference. I could stand straight up and still get a good mop of the floor with much less effort and pain.
Just an idea for those of you who don't fall into the 5ft range and doing the moping. I'd rather save your back so you could be out boating instead of laying in bed ;-)
