This works great.....It will not slip off when you turn the water on and it may save your impeller or engine.. just slip on the muffs, line up the holes and insert rod through both holes...

hey, i like that idea, the rod is on the outside of motor, towards the prop side, right?

sorry, not sure what you mean by the prop side. This will probably work on any outdrive or out board....

My muffs look just like that but the rod goes down through the center. It easily goes through the water pickup holes from one side to the other of the engine, engages the locking mechanism, hook the water up and wala..

I just use a vice grip to hold the muffs on. It stays completly out of the way of the prop for checking to make sure the motor is shifting properly.
