So I am doing a bellow job on my 96 Mercruiser Alpha one 3.0.. I needed to replace the Gimbal bearing and for the lowest I was quoted to remove it was $70 from local area dealers/services places. Anyways, I toyed around with the home made removal tools then thought to look for an automotive axle bearing removal tool. I went to Auto Zone to shop around and sure enough on the rental shelf, I find an extractor on a slide hammer that is PERFECT for the removal. Also, it turns out that Auto Zone has a program to basically let you borrow their tools if it's within a reasonable time frame. The guy copied my photo ID and off I went. Four slides with the hammer and the bearing was out. Below is the tool package they just let you borrow. Hope this helps some of you out...
