So I am doing a bellow job on my 96 Mercruiser Alpha one 3.0.. I needed to replace the Gimbal bearing and for the lowest I was quoted to remove it was $70 from local area dealers/services places. Anyways, I toyed around with the home made removal tools then thought to look for an automotive axle bearing removal tool. I went to Auto Zone to shop around and sure enough on the rental shelf, I find an extractor on a slide hammer that is PERFECT for the removal. Also, it turns out that Auto Zone has a program to basically let you borrow their tools if it's within a reasonable time frame. The guy copied my photo ID and off I went. Four slides with the hammer and the bearing was out. Below is the tool package they just let you borrow. Hope this helps some of you out...

There have been lots of posters here rent tools from AZ. Including the slide hammer.
