Hello...

I had little trouble with my reverse and found problem and fixed it. Edges on dog clutch and reverse gear was rounded. Now was putting it all back together I created another problem which is bearing carrier on outside of lower unit around screw top one cracked. I used jb weld but I am not sure how good will it hold. Can it be welded ? Anyone selling bearing carrier for force 120 96 or whole lower unit for cheap?

Thanks

I would not trust JB in this situation. The two bolts hold the bearing carrier in place during reverse operation. In fact, even during forward operation, they resist the forces of reverse gear thrust.

If the crack fails and the other bolt has excessive force put on it, it is possible to lose the whole gear pack and prop shaft. Find one as soon as possible. Until you get a new one, operate in reverse at as low a throttle setting as practicable.

Yes, it can be welded BUT: since marine aluminum alloys contain silicon which is more difficult to weld, and since it is a delicate area, it takes a very experienced welder to do an adequate job.

Unfortunatlly the guys are right, the welding pobably won't work.
JB will probably not do a good job either.
The reason it might have broken is the amount of grease used in assembly.
The o-ring should have no grease under it!!!
A tiny bit of grease on the outside or sealer just a bit.
The grease lifts the o-ring and cause it to be over sized and the force needed to to reinstall will break the boss again,
