When I trim the engine up to a certain point gas trickles out of the front of the carbs, Is this typical? I am guessing I should rebuild the carbs but which gasket is most likely leaking?
Is it leaking out of all the carbs or just one? I noticed a similar problem on my 85. It was caused by the reed valves being jammed open with foam from the acoustic liner on the engine shroud. If the carbs are set up similar to the 85 you should be able to check. With the engine shut off manually open the choke and throttle butterfly on the carbs and with a flashlight look through the carbs and you should be able to see the reed valves. Look closely for any thing that looks different from one cylinder to the other. If you see anything unusual remove the carbs for a closer inspection.
It is normal for these carbs to spill some gas out the front when the engine is tilted. However, if the carbs are leaking gas from the body, when trimmed, then the cork bowl gasket is most likely broken and fuel will drip out from someplace around the bowl(s).
