On the left side of the carbs there is an IDLE SPEED adjusting BOLT that buts up to the engine block. Its at the bottom of a vertical shaft connected to the two carbs. Turn it so it doesn't BUT UP anymore. Your rpms should drop. DON'T touch the screws on the carbs. Since its a 98 Mercury (Force) tell me if I'm close enough.
have already tried that screw and it doesnt seem to make any diference, the motor has been sitting for 18 months and i wondered if it was stale fuel?<br />what happenes if you touch the air fuel screws - ive already done that in an atempt to smooth out the rough running and the engine reved its self up to about 6000 rpm untill i could get it to shut down
The jets are partially clogged with gas that has turned to varnish causing a lean miture. Set Mixture screws at 1 1/2 turns out from all the way in. Then when running turn in till engine misses a little. Same with other screw. Whats the rpm now? On the left side again there is a cam and roller aside the lower carb. When throttle is idle is the mark on the cam adjacent to the center of the roller?
