Force 120

Hi guys,

I have the opportunity to pick up a 1989 FORCE 120HP with maybe 200 hours on it. If the compression is good and there are not metal fillings in the lower unit lube, it runs good, is it worth $1000.00? It is on a boat I want, and I might be willing to just put a new engine on the boat if necessary.

Any advice I can get would be wonderful, As I am used to smaller mercs and johnson motors. Thank again in advance.

Re: Force 120

I've owned and worked on Force outboards and I suggest steering clear of them. Parts are somewhat hard to get now so what will happen in the future? The motor your'er buying is 12 years old, it WILL need TLC soon. What if EPA regs get tighter, these engines cann't pass...
Look around more, what with summer comming to an end( in the northern states :D ) you should be able to get a deal on any other brand but Force...

Dmessy,

thanks for the info.
I looked at alot of past-posts about Force 120/125, and there seems to be alot of problems posted, but alot of people seem to say that they are easy to repair. I do not not make it on the water as much as I would like, so I really cherish the time I do get, and I do not like losing a whole fishing trip over engine troubles.
Thank you to everyone for their input, more would be appreciated!
