Engine 94 mercury force 120hp. Replaced blown voltage regulator with rectifier on advice of force dealer mechanic(I know eats up bateries)

Attached red wire to + terminal on rectifier and attached the two yellow wires,one on each of the other two terminal posts.The grey tach pickup wire I attached to one of the terminals that has a yellow wire. Problem: Engine starts great, but I cannot turn it off with the ignition switch, kill switch or both. Have tried all different hookups for the wires to no avail. The engine started and stopped perfectly even with the blown voltage regulator(as long as the battery was charged)so cannot understand what the problem might be. HELP. <br />Baffled in Canada
