I have a 1991 120hp force outboard on a 20'Bayliner Capri. I am having issues with the timing. I know it supposed to be 28 degrees BTDC @WOT, but when I hook my timing light up to it my numbers show up on the drivers side of motor. How do I fix this so I can adjust the timing ? It ran all day at the lake, but it runs like a terd. I've rebuilt the carbs, put in fresh gas, I think just tming is off, any advice would be appreciated.

Your are suppose to hook it up to #1 plug (the top)..

One of the first posts in this forum is a post for static timing.

The timing is done with the plugs out and the leads grounded and the throttle all the way forward,
key on.
You'll need a remote starter too.

Running like a turd: Compression test? Spark test? Bad fuel line? Bad fuel line connectors? Check the reeds for damage?
Water in the system? Wrong prop??

Oh yea welcome!!

I grounded all plug wires,, hooked a jumper to the kill swith, has a brand new prop, new plugs, good compression, and I hooked up the light to #1 plug wite, just can't figure out why the numbers are reading on the side, at the lake they were in front

Maybe the flywheel key has sheared and the flywheel has shifted around on the crankshaft?

Do you pull the plugs?
Is the throttle all the way forward when testing the timing??

Is the connector at the trigger broken?
Sometimes it cracks and won't advance when throttled up?

The flywheel could be sheared just a tiny bit.
Pull it and check it.
