Hello folks. It has been a while since my last post. Haven’t used the boat in a couple of years. I believe Frank answered my last post. He is greatly missed. Attempted to start the boat today. It caught after a couple attempts but would run for only about 15 seconds with each attempt with the throttle in the start position. Saw gas dripping out of the top carb. Assumed it was the needle/seat. Removed top carb to check needle. Looks good to me. No dirt or particles seen. No damage to needle tip and it moves freely. Does the needle sit against a metal seat or rubber? I could only see metal. Any ideas/suggestions?
Thanks,
Ken.

One part of the needle/seat should have rubber.
Not sure what you have but if there is no rubber on the tip of the needle? or in the seat?
Then you need to find a needle with a rubber tip.

The seats can be a real PITA to remove and most times the carb body gets damaged.

The gas coming from the top carb: could be the reeds are bad?
Do a compression test?

Some carb cleaners and soaks destroy the rubber/plastic used in the carbs.
I use a spray cleaner on hard jobs then finish with Dawn and rinse in fresh water and blow dry.
No lubes or sprays needed.

Jerry, Thanks for a quick reply. The needle does in fact have a rubber tip. I can see no damage to it. A few years ago I did a compression test. Basically 145 psi on all 4 cyl. Motor has been used very little. Should I just buy rebuild kits for both carbs?
Have not checked reed valves.
Thanks.

Some gas coming back isn't a problem.
A lot of gas is.
Does it do it a LOT??

Compression can change from 1 trip to the next.
