My 1988 125 has always had a starting backfiring problem but after it kicked back bending the starter motor armature and stranding me I'd had enough. A trip to the mechanic yielded nothing as he said "the engine runs perfect... they all backfire when you start them" The exhaust backfire generally occurs on the first or second revolution of the flywheel no matter how new the battery and yes my mechanic did readjust the carbs and go over the engine. The engine does run perfect...once it stops backfiring and starts.
