force 125?? help

1st. is 140 psi a deccent compression? what is the live span of this motor between rebuilds? and where can i order parts from? my local boat guy says my motor need rebuilt because it had a slight hiccup or misfire, i think i fixed the problem but i wont know forsure untill the weekend.

Your 'local boat guy' is trying to make some money off you. 140 is good compression, it will last years if treated well.

140 PSI is good but more important is if the readings for each cylinder are within 10% of each other. I've seen some that are 20 years old and still going strong. Just depends on how they are maintained.

Mine is almost 25 years old and still runs great. It was severally mistreated by a previous owner but with help from this site and minor repairs it runs as good as new. Parts can be purchased from here at Iboats, or boats.net http://www.boats.net/parts/search/Merc2/Force/parts.html and a few others and sometimes discontinued parts can be found on ebay.

Please find another local boat guy: He is just taking advantage of your lack of knowledge. AT THIS TIME. With continued reading and questioning on the forum you will become more proficient and knowledgeable about these engines
