Trying to fix an overheating problem and I think I will start with the Impeller replacement. The motor is a Force 1258V7B on a 1986 VIP. It hit the alarm once and now sets it off in a very short time. Water is just barely coming out of the ports, even at WOT. Can anyone tell me which parts to buy. I am assuming the motor is a 1986 but not sure. I figure I would replace the impeller and T-stat. Does this sound like a logical place to start. Sorry if I have any dumb questions I am new to the boat owning world. Thanks in advance.

Re: Force 125 Impeller

Welcome to iboats.
You seem to have the right idea on what to do.

According to the model number, the motor is a 1987 model.

Mercury part number 47-803630T WATER PUMP IMPELLER $17

Or you can order up the entire water pump, FK1069 WATER PUMP KIT $70

F528068 THERMOSTAT $32

And don't forget to get a repair manual.
I recommend the Clymer Force Outboard Repair manual.

Re: Force 125 Impeller

Should I get the impeller only or the kit. What makes the kit so much more? Thanks for the help

Re: Force 125 Impeller

The kit includes the screws, lock washers, impeller, gasket, and base plate.

If there is damage or wear to these parts, replace them.
They can all be ordered separately from Mercury.

Also, the water pump housing/body is part number 46-817853T1.

Chances are you can get by with just the impeller and gasket, but I would open it up and look at it before you order the part(s). Merc dealer or online Merc store will get you the parts in 2-4 days.

Re: Force 125 Impeller

Well I just ended up doing the impeller. The motor doesn't seem to move any more water out than it did before but the temp alarm hasn't gone off so it must have worked. The old impeller was pretty bad, so much that it had the round ends worn completely off.
