That's a trailering bracket.
Usually held in by a cotter key.

This is needed so you don't blow the hyd. system.
The bouncing up and down can ruin the system.

That did it.. it was jerry rigged on (no offense) so confused me. So now the trim does all the way up and down... big win. However, after a number of minutes the motor eventually bleeds back down and lowers itself.

Do you see hydraulic fluid leaking anywhere? Maybe just be low or there is air in the line . with the motor in the up position, remove the reservoir cap and fill with hydraulic fluid then cycle the motor up and down

I don't see anything leaking now.. I'll have to wipe everything down and see though. When I loosened one of the lines it seems like I bled out air because the motor did nothing then all of a sudden spurted out fluid and the motor started moving.. so maybe a bit low...I've read all over what fluid to put in and have multiple different answers from hyd fluid (from a jack), to 30w oil, etc. I still have yet to find a service manual for this thing too..

It's Jury Rigged. not Jerry :)

30w non det. oil.
You fill from the side when the motor is all the way down.

Cycle it down, let set 1 hr.
Then open and see what comes out??
Should be 30w.

Fill and replace the cap, be very careful as it cross threads real easy.
Run it back up and then down 1-2 times.
Open again when down and check the fluid.

The dropping on it's own.
That's a seal problem in the very bottom of the pump, there is NOTHING you can fix in the pump itself.
The top 3 posts have info on how to do some repairs.
Test/troubleshoot the drop before you try to fix.
The procedures for the test are there too.
This repair is included there.
You can do some real damage in there so be real careful when attempting this repair.

They sell the pump fairly cheap but they aren't the best.

So I followed the guidelines and refilled the pump... put it up to see if it continues to drop and I'll go from there..

The test procedures to isolate the problem are in the sticky's.
It most likely are the seals in the bottom of the pump but in some cases it can be the tilt ram?
