Force 125 problems

Ok last summer I put a serious beat down on this old 125.

I lost a prop fin and my skeg. The skeg is completely gone, is there anyway to weld a new one on or will i need a new case?

Also the trim tilt motor doesn't seem to be working properly. The motor will go up after a few seconds of pushing the button. After a few mins it will slowly drop back down. Also when the motor is in any up position and I apply throttle, the motor will slam back down into the hull. I also noticed some oil in the water when I was docked.

After taking the big rock hit to the skeg the motor would not fully rev up. I could throttle it all the way but it would only go about half speed.

Another cause for concern is the noise when shifting into reverse. The motor makes a loud clunk when put in reverse.

Should I be saving up for a new one or investing in a good repair shop?

Thanks for the help!

sorry to hear about your beat down , but i did the same on my first boat , skeg and TWO blades torn off...damage to my pocket, $500.00 for a replacement lower unit on my 1973 Evinrude 85 HP....

I recently bought a 1987 125 Force from Craigs List for $400.00.......I paid more than that for a replacement lower unit on my first boat.....so at that price, you might try searching for the entire outboard, I have seen a few other old 125's sell for cheap.....find one and decide wich one runs better...or , just swap the lower units... I'm worried about the engine not revving up...makes me wonder how far up the outboard the beat down traveled and made damage...the loud clunk into reverse doesn't surprise me... :D, it shoudn't surprise you either... :D, ..I'm lucky I was sitting down when I hit whatever I hit @25mph....I know what kind of hard stop you came to....the Evinrude wouldn't even shift into reverse...as for your trim/tilt....was it working before the beat down ? if not , it sounds like you may have a valve body issue...or a nasty leak...check your fluid...it should be right at the level of the fill port...clean up any connection (hydraulic lines)or seal area (around the piston )and at the valve body to reservoir mating surface area with some brake cleaner, top off the reservoir, and look for leaks after operating the system...... let us know how it works out for you ...Happy Holidays

I have that poor hammered prop from my first boat prominently displayed on a shelf in my livingroom...as a reminder ...a few women have asked me what it was (they were blonde) .....I tell them its a "bad screw".....:D

So after finally getting a new prop months later, I decided to hang the old on the the wall as well. A great reminder for running in shallow waters! I really hope the gearcase wasnt wrecked but ill find out this spring. Thanks for the advice.

Trim motor not spinning is electrical. could be motor, could be relay, could be switch, could be wiring. Sounds like switch. Keeping the button pressed down usually doesn't make a lot of difference to relays, motors, or corroded battery terminals.

Outboard engine drifting down is valve body. Same problem causes motor to slam down under power. The seal in valve body are shot. Not a user friendly repair. You can either buy new or have it rebuilt. Try searching here on Iboats for a new one. If you want new then buy before season. They usually sold out and backordered by July. I'm guessing $250ish for a new one and about half for a rebuild.
