i took my 86 force 125 bayliner capri out to the lake today and when we lowered it in to the water she turned right over and i let her warm up and put her in reverse and docked. We drove her for about 2 hours starting and stopping ever now and then. Then after we stopped in the middle of the lake to switch out skis she would not start, we cranked and cranked and thought she might have flooded so we sat for a while. Finally i pulled the handle to nutral and she started but the prop was spinning and we were going forward even though the stick was in neutral. She would only get up to about 2000 rpm so i ran her back to the dock because i did not know if she would start again. We got back to the dock i killed it and started her again and she was doing the same thing i brought the stick back to neutral and put her in gear and she ran perfect. But no i don't have neutral or reverse. When in reverse she goes forward. Any ideas?

Re: Force 125 starting and gears issues

look about halfway down the front of your motor and make sure your shift rod is still connected to the lower units shift rod mine has a cotter pin through it. If so check under your fuel pump look at the 2 cables that are located there if they are not attached get your manual out(you do have a manual right?) and reattach unhooked cable if thats what you see. Also check for loose nuts on those cables. If not look under carbs there is a assembly down there that actuates the shift rod look for looseness or missing nuts
