Force 125 (1258x5a) After rebuilding I am at the end of the 35:1 ratio break-in period. Should I wait until I am completely switched over to 50:1 ratio to sync the carbs and do any idle adjustment? If I do it now, will I just have to readjust later? Thanks, Eric

Re: Force 125 sync carbs with 35:1 ratio

I'm in the same situation and asked myself the same question. I have about 5 hours on my newly rebuilt outboard and I just performed the link and sync as written by Frank in the sticky section of this board. I ran the first four hours at low speed/low rpms with short bursts at 4000 to 4500 rpms. I, however, am running at 24:1 ratio, not 35:1 like you.

I was running with the presets which included 1 1/4 turns from lightly seated on the carb needles, however I have them adjusted down to 1 full turn out now. I fully expected to have to make another adjustment after switching to 50:1 ratio, but at least I'll be familiar with how to do it. I also checked the timing and remarkably I was 32 degrees WOT not running, which according the manual for my 1995 90 HP, is where it is supposed to be.

Re: Force 125 sync carbs with 35:1 ratio

Even though I haven't gotten an answer regarding the fuel ratio and its relationship to adjusting the carbs on my Force 125 (1258x5a), after thinking about it a little bit more I think I am going to wait and adjust when the fuel mixture is fully 50:1 rather than 35:1. To me it makes sense, am I correct?

Seems to me, adjustments should made according to how the motor is running. Not so much a timeline. Heavier on the oil might tend to foul plugs easier so always check them prior to carb. adjustments.

Am I incorrect that the engine will run a bit different with the 35:1 as opposed to the 50:1 or doesn't it make a difference at the carbs? I would think 35:1 would have a bit less combustion and therefore run differently. But since I am not a pro . . . . I don't know.

Ideal WOT RPM's should be 5500. That's what is needed to get the most out of your motor. Run 50:1 and make adjustments to achieve those rpm's, be it carb., prop, timing, etc. Don't get a headache overthinking this leasure time activity.:)
