my buddy,as well as myself, both have force 125's 1988 and 1989 respectively. He has a split ignition coil spark plug boot and he just bought it 2 days ago but has yet to start it out of fear.Is it okay or is it safe to tempoararily start engine with the coil split open at the spark plug boot?He paid 500 for it but now he's hesitatnt to start it.I could just lend him one of my coils but I live 75 miles away and REALLY dont want to have to do that.Any way or procedure...ground spark plug wire?take out plug? connect spark tester in between? whaddayasay?

Re: force 125 testing

Fill the split with silicone seal, shoe goo or similar and tape it closed. Even with a split boot, if the spark plug porcelain is clean the spark will probably preferentially jump the plug gap which is smaller so go ahead and stert the engine.

" the coil split open at the spark plug boot?"????
The coil's about 12" from the boot.
What split and where?
If it's just a split boot? Auto Zone sells them.
Coil split? Then do as Frank suggested.
If he needs a coil? Send me a PM I have one.

Frank..so the God has spoken lol...thanks ,I will call him and tell him to try it out and let me know how it goes.

Jerry...sorry bad terminology...I dont know what the assembly as a whole is called...its just a split spark plug boot that is attached to the coil pack.So are you saying he can just snip the boot off and put another one on from autozone???

and Frank did you mean if the actual blue coil is split to tape or the plug boot...did I confuse you too with how I worded it?

Yes the end just pulls off.
Use WD or even windex to provide some slip.
They sell them at most auto parts stores.
If your worried about the lead???
Then you can use shrink tube and liquid electric tape.
Yes if the coil's split and still working, just fill it with silicone and tape it up.
