The other day i bought a 88 force 125 and had it put on my boat on the way home i didnt have naything supporting the trim/tilt and i drove home with it up. I got about a half a mile and relized that it had dropped all the way down (it was a fairly bumpy road). The tilt will bring it up but then it leaks down and make fairly loud poping noises as it drops. It leaks from all the way up to all the way down in about an hour. what could be wrong with it?

Loud popping like air? Or like metal? If it sounds like air check seals, try bleeding the lines.

the loud popping is probably the rubber shock eyes or tilt pivot bolt not sliding freely. The drift down is common and one hour isn't that bad. It is caused by the internal seals in your valve body getting old with age. They either harden with age or soften with use. Either way, 22 years is a good long time. Car parts made from rubber don't last nearly that long.

The valve body costs about $125 to have rebuilt and $215 to replace with new. The smart money is to replace the entire pump assy including both motor and valve body. The motor seals are made from same rubber and water gets inside. Motor usually breaks within a couple years of valve body. It only costs $100 more to do both at once. If you do them separately it costs about $170 more in parts plus 2-4 hours more labor.
