I have a problem with my 88 Force 125 Trim Motor. One of the brushes is split and the motor is not functioning. It looks as if the brushes are integrated with the motor cap. Does anyone know if this cap (and brushes) are replaceable. I have been calling around for parts and no one seems able to help.

Craig (trying not to spend 250 bucks on a new motor)

Re: Force 125 Trim Motor Brushes

The trim motor on my Force 125 failed as well. Not exactly sure what went wrong with it, but I had an automotive electric shop rebuild it. I had used them before to rebuild starters & alternators, & I knew their work to be excellent. They charged me $25. I'm in Houston, TX; so it probably won't be feasible for you to use the shop that I did. If you have any friends who are car guys, ask them if they know of any good automotive electric shops.

Good luck.

Yes, they are rebuilbable, but what a pain in the rump they can be!!
I would find a convienient elctric motr or alternator shop as Michael sugjested..Because I can tell you,it's not fun, and I about lost my kewl on the one I tried to do. I got it, but it took me 4 hours, and I about bled to death (JK),but I was bloody.
