Hello, i'm running a 1988 Force 125 and at idle it runs just fine, when i throttle up to half and above i begin to get water in the fuel and of course the engine lays down and stalls. I clear the carb bowls and filter and it will fire rite back up and will idle for an hour with no water in the fuel, but once you throttle up its in there again. I recently removed the sending unit from the tank and drained it completely, i replace all fuel lines, water seperator, fuel filter at carbs, and put 15 gal of gas in it and let it sit for a week and no leaks were found. what could possibly be going on? any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Doesnt make sense. Why do you say it is water? If you had water in your fuel seems it would show up regardless of your throttle speed. Is there debri inside the carb bowls?

There is absolutely no way that water can leak from the engine cooling system into the fuel system. You don't say what your tank is, but try it with a three or six gallon portable tank and fresh fuel. I'm guessing that you have a built in tank and while you may think you drained it completely, you really didn't. I'm also guessing that at higher throttle settings, because of the boat attitude, the residual water runs back to the pick-up and enters the engine. If the boat is stored on a trailer, lift up the front high and drain the tank. A good water separator/filter, while expensive will help a bit with the problem. If there is not a lot of water left, you can also add (Heaven forbid--Heresy) some dry gas/ alcohol to absorb it. Just don't get too happy with the additive.

PS. Not the same, but related:I have a 30 gallon tank with the pick-up in the front. Over 1/2 throttle, because of boat attitude, I can only use 17 of the 30.

i know, didnt make sense to me either. when i drained the tank i tilted the boat on the trailer as much as possible, used a fuel pump to remove all fuel, and there was not even a drop left in the tank. what are the 2 other lines on the fuel pump for? i see they come off the side of the power head. is it possible it could come from them?

The fuel pump should have three hoses on it: One is the supply and attaches to the black plastic screen cover. One is the outlet and feeds the carbs. The short one from the powerhead in a pulse hose and works the small part of the diaphragm with negative and positive pressure from the crankcase. None of these hoses can introduce water to the fuel.

The large portion of the diaphragm is operated by a hole in the bypass cover. IF you have a fourth hose coming off another cylinder on the block, then you have a retro-fit old style pump.
