Re: force 125

Sure you can.A different brand and smaller HP.The transom will need to be drilled.Different brand and shifter and guages will need to be changed.
Make sure the shaft/length of the motor is the same.
The easiest way is get another Force. The 85/90 or 120/125.Will bolt right up.
After 1992/93 the transom brackets change so you need to make sure that it's the same.
What's wrong with the 125? Is it fixable? They are fairly easy to work on.
Fill out the profile you might live close to someone who can help.(location).
You wouldn't be real happy with a 75.Not fast enough.J

It is not a question of can you do it, but should you do it. You can substitue a 75 if you have one handy or can get one at a reasonable price. BUT---Will you be happy with the significantly decreased performance? A 75 will most likely get your hull on plane, but it will lose at least 10 MPH top speed.

Re: force 125

Generally speaking, if you do the disassembly and reassembly work yourself, a rebuild is very cost efficient. Before jumping in though you should test the engine for compression on all four cylinders, spark, and check the lower unit for condition. If you are not mechanically inclined, have a friend do it. A marina or mechanic will be too expensive.
