Hi,

The prop shaft anode on my 86 125HP is shot and seems to be an obsolete part. I am using my boat exclusively in fresh water. Can I remove the anode all together? If so what should I install the 2 screws to cover the 2 holes or does it matter?

Thank you.

Frederic

Doesn't look too bad from the photo. Unless you are having corrosion issues, it's not really needed in fresh water. Especially if you don't leave it in the water for extended periods. Not sure if you really need to plug the holes, but I don't think you do. If in doubt, put the bolts back in.

Thank you very much. You right, can't really tell from picture but it is in bad shape small crack in it. afraid it's gonna come apart. I noticed it while draining LU.

Just leave it there.
IF?? it's in rough shape? that means it's working.
The holes are also used to install a puller if the carrier needs to come out.
So put the screws back in or plug them somehow.

Mine is in a worse condition than that and I used it on seawater. Yup, leave it there. On the otherhand, if you know a machinist they can actually fabricate one from a round stock of zinc. I do not know about the cost but it doesn't look that complicated.
