Hi, first time poster on here, been a reader for months. So, I have a 1993 or 1994 force 150, serial # 0e022214, did so much work to that thing to try to make it not melt down. Impeller, checked thermostat, water jacket check, compression check, redid the carbs fuel system, etc etc etc.
Well, Saturday, it melted down anyway. Cylinder 1 piston is trashed, and 5 looks a little crummy too. I'm guessing that the crank case seal(s) went bad, and there wasn't enough vacuum sucking in fuel and it ran lean to death. Carbs needed to be adjusted 2 or more turns out for it to be happy. Any thoughts on the crank case seal theory?
Also, I found a running (supposedly) force 150 from 1991 missing a starter, trim tilt pump, about 3 hours away for $500. The question is this. Can I take the long block from that and bolt it onto mine?
All of my electronics are good, cdi stator, switchbox, all new rubber, fuel lines, fuel system, clean fuel recirculating system, and everything, spotless carbs. My shop manual says something like 1991J to 1994, the assumption being J is the part of the serial number that is included in the book all the way up to 1994.
I was hoping you guys would know if this idea will work, or what to look for on his motor to find out if it will or won't. Serial number? Engine component telltales?
Anyway, I've been impressed with you guys in your force knowledge, I'm sure someone knows .
Thanks in advance,
Jack
