Force 150 rough idle all the sudden

Just killing time before I can go look at the Force tonight so thought I'd post to get a few ideas.

Had the boat out several times over the last couple of weeks no issues after fixing the exhaust tube on it.

Was out this last weekend and after two days out on the water, day three we're idling along and it just quit out of the blue (no drop in rpms nothing, no warning at all).

When running at WOT it runs fine. When idling, its about 900-1000 in neutral and about 700 in gear (ive endlessly messed around with getting the in gear number a bit higher but..this seemed to be where it runs best).

Now however its hard to start......when the motor is tilted down. It'll just barely start..run a few seconds....quit. If I give it a bit of throttle then I can keep it running. However If I tilt it up, starts just fine. Now after idling for a couple of minutes, sometimes no problem...sometimes it would start bogging down, give it a bit of throttle and she idles fine for a while.

The carbs have been cleaned (new floats, pins, etc), new fuel pump kits put in about 3 months ago. The tilting up has me thinking maybe its flooding....could the recirculation system be plugged? Any other ideas?

Thanks!

New 3 months ago!! I'd go through the pumps again.A diaphram can go bad 1 trip.
Check for water in the fuel.
Do a comp/spark test.Then post what you find.J

im betting one of your floats are laying down in the bowl. maybe a pin came loose and isnt holding the float level correctly when you tilt it up it leans the carbs out and down richins it up to much

Re: Force 150 rough idle all the sudden

I'm at a loss here. Checked the following:

1. Compression (motor ran for about 2 minutes to warm it up) is about 140 on all cylinders, doesnt vary by more then 3lbs. Compression to me looks good.

2. Pull cable off fuel pump...squirts plenty of fuel. Carbs all have fuel in them, needle and floats look good.
Also looked at the filter screens, both appeared nice and clean.

3. I couldnt find my inline spark tester so I put all new plugs in and using a spare plug, tested each wire by hooking it up and touching the block, spark from all 5 wires.

What am I missing???

I could also be that a wire is getting pinched when the motor
is in the 'down' position, couldn't it?

What about your fuel line connection? I know you checked the
filter/screen, but is there movement where the line clamps into
the motor, or is IT getting pinched when it's down?

Re: Force 150 rough idle all the sudden

I ended up draining the tank and putting fresh gas/oil in it, only thing I can figure was a bad tank of gas. Ended up using the boat on sunday afternoon and didn't have any problems with it.

Thats a good call on the wires though, will take a look at that next time I have it out. Thanks for the help all!
