I have a friend who has a Force 150 with low hours that he has not started up since 1995. We drained the gas tank and we will be adding fresh gas and oil mix. Can anyone offer any advice on things we might want to do to the engine prior to starting it up after it has been sitting for 7 years?

Jowinden, welcome to iboats. Drain the carb bowls too.
Remove the plugs, and put a shot of WD40 in each cylinder, even tho it's not froze-up. This will help free-up stuck rings.
Change the impeller out, and the lower unit lube.

Yes. Uhh, What 12Footer said.

It might also help to sacrifice a sheep or a pig. :D

Seriously, if 12Footer's advice can't get a Force running you are in real trouble.

Good luck. :)

Thanks guys. It worked fine to get it started. Do you know where we would find an owner's manual to see how to replace the impeller?

I would overhaul the carbs with new kits and replace all the rubber parts in the fuel pump and clean it too. Replace any fuel filters on the motor and run a strong dose Mercury "Fuel System Cleaner" in the first tank of fuel. I think your taking a big chance with an engine thats been sitting this long if you don't do these things. And as you said, replace the waterpump impeller.

Ooops.. yes, Flyboymark is right about the fuel pump diaphrams. Sitting that lomg, they will be dry rotted,or at least stiffened,so that when you start it up,it will run great...For about 30minutes,and then, end-up in the jets and orafices of your carbs.
The kits aren't expensive, and it's good insurance. The manual can be found at this link.

http://www.boatdealers.com/mall/ind...rt_id=777427271&current_category=force manual

Some Mercury "Engine Tune" would be a good idea too before its first run on the water to clean the insides and unstick any rings sticking...
