This engine has been sitting for a few years because my dad has not had time to take it out, so i wanted to try to fix up the boat and the engine. I put new gas in and a new carb and it ran perfect, no problems at all until yesterday. It was the second day on the lake and I was coming in to pick up a friend and the engine started to die at about 3/4 throttle and it slowly came to a stop and shut off. There was white smoke coming out of the top of the engine so i uncovered it and let it breath for a bit. The engine has not started since. The engine turns over fine but doenst seem to be getting a strong spark and wont fire. another thing that happens sometimes an alarm that is under the steering console goes on but will turn off after a few seconds or turning the ignition off.

Here is what i've tried so far:
Cleaned carb
Cleaned fuel filter
New tank and new gas
Cleaned fuel lines
New spark plugs

Any help would be awesome
Thanks

Sounds like the motor overheated on you. I would test compression first then do a spark test. Even though you cant do the compression test with the motor warm it will still show you if something is blown or damaged.

I will do that, what should the compression read?

At one point yesterday the engine had spark and would sputter like it was going to start, then it would backfire and it would just keep turning over.

How hard is this engine to rebuild? Is it worth it?

Thanks,
Tim
