Force 1990 9.9 hp engine repair?

I inherited an 1990 9.9 hp Force Outboard. My father in law had not used it since 2000 It was inside the house and very clean inside in the engine. I am not a mechanic or that familiar with outboard engines. I took out the spark plugs and replaced with recommendation from parts store. It still would not start. When I pull the cord not really getting any sound that it will start. I did not adjust the gap on the plugs but thought I would get something more when pulling. I was ordering the manual online and going to try and find a local mechanic to work on it. Does anyone have any general reccomendations on how to proceed. My young kids would love for me to get this running and hopefully it won't cost to much. I already replaced some parts on the trailer and all set if I can get the engine going.

Welcome to iboats.

When you get the manual, go to the Engine FAQs.

First, do "Awakening a sleeping outboard".

If it still won't start, do "Outboard won't start".

No rocket science involved. Read the manual. We are here to help you get 'er done.
