A weak battery can kill these starters if overcranked. Just like if an electric d/c motor has an undersupplied current it will damage the motor. I would start with a new battery and new connectors both on the powerhead side and at the battery.

Hi Guys. An update on my Force 40hp with high compression that wont turnover. I have found the cure. Although battery was fully charged I replaced it with a higher cranking amp model, from 250cca to 450cca and hey presto she spun freely and started first pop. It now starts first time every time. I also relaced pos cable to solenoid although upon cutting open the cable was clean, no corrosion. Thanks for all your help:

Thanks for the follow-up, sx. Very few ever do that. Glad it turned out to be a simple fix.

Wow I didnt even know they made 250cca batteries...sounds like something that would be in a riding lawnmower. Glad you fixed your problem!

Hi. Yes down here in kiwiland we have 250cca batteries in our vehicles. No yank tanks!! Yep she turns over nicely now. Thanks:rolleyes:
