I've got a 50hp Force (model #507Y7C, believe is 1987). I'm trying to set the carburator float level. The Clymer manual says there should be 13/32 in. between the float and the casting with the carb body inverted. Also says there should be 1/16 in. between the bottom of the float and the top of the fuel jet with the carb upright. When I set the first measurement the second can't be made as the float completely covers the jet and cannot be moved above the jet. Does anyone know what these measurements should be? Is the Clymer manual correct? Doesn't seem to be to me. At 13/32 in. the float is very low and looks like the fuel level would be to low in the carb. Would think the float should be closer to parallel with the casting.

Re: Force 50 Carb

I had great luck at adjusting the float level by eye. Too low, and you'll expell fuel out of the overflow, because it wont push up the needle. Too high, and the bowl runs lean.
Using the "paper t-sqaure" that comes in the kit,works---but you need two more hands.
I'm not sure I follow what you mean by covering the jet. The high level setting will shut off fuel flow when the level of fuel reaches full.
If in doubt, adjust the tab so that it starts to push the needle with the float paralell with the bowl flange. This will give you apprx 1/16" more float travel for moving the needle up to cut-off all the way.
Try rough assembly, pumping it up , while holding it the carb in your other hand (level, as if mounted on an untilted motor)). It shouldn't expell fuel.
The tab on the float's hinge plate will be the only place it should be adjusted.

Re: Force 50 Carb

These demensions come from a chrysler manual
With the carb inverted the demension is measured
from the bottom of the float not between the float and the body 13/32. with carb upright
measurement from bottom of float to carb
body is 13/16 These measurements are not made
between the float and carb body.
Keep in mind these measurements are for a 55
chrysler but I think the procedure will work for yours too.

Hi Ron
There are several ways to determime Float level and drop. I am not going to say Clymers is wrong. How ever if you will post your Email address I will send you some scans that should clairify this procedure for you. This will be OEM info.
