89 Force 50 .... harmonic puller and three grade 8 bolts ... one grade 8 bolt pulled clean apart, the threaded end still stuck in the flywheel.

I guess i'll just tow the whole thing to the boat shop and see if they can get it off. I've been working on cars all my life and have never failed to pull something.

Is this normal?

I just got done doing two of mine. One was very stubborn. Used generous amounts of Liquid Wrench, then heating of the flywheel with Propane Torch around the shaft but not direct on it. Then a few taps with hammer on the end and it popped. May work for you also if havent tried yet.

Re: Force 50 ... flippin flywheel

I just broke a 3 jaw puller and a hardened 1/4-20 bolt trying to remove a wheel from an 85/88.
I used heat(acetelene) and oil etc.
It's still on there.
I'm gonna drill out the 1/4-20 and go with a 5/16 bolt and step up the heat to a cutting setting.

Let me knoiw how it goes, I also thought of drilling and tapping bigger holes ... the flywheel is made out of that 'white metal', so I dont know how the tapping might go. I've just left the puller on the flywheel for about a day and a half now, Every once and awhile I go out, tap it with a hammer, and wank it down a bit more ... I'll let uall know how I fare :)

Re: Force 50 ... flippin flywheel

YEA! I finally got it off today, after leaving the puller on it for like 2 weeks, soaking it in WD-40, torching it (which was challenging since my torch does not seem to like to run for more than a few seconds at any angle > 45 degrees from vertical), and whacking (faily hard) the puller with a 4 pound hammer. Whohhoo! I wish luck to the rest of you! :) I needed to fix a couple of wires that were shorted close to the stator. I ran it on the river today (after replacing the flywheel, heh), and sadly my 'motor falling to 1/4 throttle at WOT after like 20 mins' issue had not changed. but I have a new theory on that one for anyone that is interested. Thanks for all the help! :)
